As I listened to the final episode of Saturday Night Sega (RIP) recently, I was struck by the sheer variety of the tunes played during the show. Despite all the disparate styles of songs played, two genres were most prevalent: electronica and buttrock. This got me wondering, what is the musical legacy of Sega games? Is it Yuzo Koshiro’s bassy techno?
Or is it Crush 40’s 80s-style buttrock?
I think a case could be made for both. Let’s investigate.
